Pp-complexions

Put simply: Complexions was amazing.

The way in which the dancers twisted and contorted their bodies was mind-boggling. It is hard to imagine what they can't do with their limbs.

The evening started humorously when I thought my mum and I should hit up a party going on. In my email invite I got told there was a wee function to go to and we were early so I thought why not?
Let's be honest, I would turn up to the opening of an envelope.

So when I saw the red carpet I went up it, and into a room of glorious champagne and canapes.
A few speeches later it became clear that all of these people had contributed to the Aotea Centre Board.... and I had not.
Was a tad awkward turtle so we slipped out to another party.

When the show first started I have to say I wasn't particularly enthused. I was amazed but not entirely entertained. But it was just a ruse, as the show went on it got better and better.
The dancers leapt and bounded with both poise and vivaciousness . As the actor sitting behind me said "I don't really understand what they are saying but gosh they are great".

Their final act which used music by U2 was spectacular. You could literally see the muscles pulsing and extending, it was incredible.

Quite rightly so, the company got a standing ovation.

Maybe the premise of it was complex but the beauty of what they were doing was simple.

Throughly recommend you get along to it.

Complexions052637

Confession: I am not the biggest dance fan.

I love dancing but send me to a show where I need to interpret what people are saying through movement and I have to admit I may be a little puzzled.
When I dance I am not looking for meaning, in fact if my dancing style could be defined it would be "interpretive" and not in a good way.
I literally interpret every word in a song and try to sign it as a movement. It has not yet managed to get me pick up on the d-floor.
But perhaps I need to be a little more subtle. Learn something from these fandangled dancers.

I have always struggled with sitting still in a dance performance. How to tell what they are really saying when all i have is a plie and a kick-ball-change.
Back when I was about ten I was taken to Royal New Zealand Ballet's Romeo and Juliet. I famously told my Mum "Why don't they speak? This is boring!!"
She has never let me forget that. But i stand by the fact that a few lines of Shakespeare's would have made the play make more sense.

Tomorrow I turn 21 and am told need to start acting like an adult. What better to bring me into the realm of adulthood but a classy modern ballet.

Complexions Contemporary Ballet are here for a second time and I am instantly thinking it is cool because of some previous reviews I have read.
My fave newspaper, New York Times says  "it was like hot molten lava; flowing with undeniable power."
Others describe the physicality of it.

Looking at the press pictures I couldn't believe how muscly they are.
You imagine ballet dancers to be petite and pretty.
Perhaps typical of a New Yorker they are toned and powerful, like they could take on a mugger in Central Park ala Jodie "Brave One"Foster.
Hopefully they don't get too carried away with their vigilante behaviour, Jodie is scary!

Unlike a traditional ballet, Complexions is using the music of U2, Billie Holliday and Roy Buchanan.
An interesting selection on paper, the director has spoken about the contrast between starting with Chopin and finishing with U2.
Hopefully this will satisfy my need for words in performance or at least get my toes tapping.

I am going to opening night (Yay me!) but you can all check it out until the 2nd of October at the Aotea Centre.

86609-56611-7

It takes some kind of show to have me get up and dance. But Grease the Musical had me shamefully doing just that.

Admittedly I wasn't quite so happy clappy as the joyous old woman next to us but  it did have me bopping along.

Perhaps in my dreamy daze, I hadn't realised that this was actually a proper production. This was very clearly evident in the huge production values.

From the very first blinding neon light to the slick choreographed finale, this was a MUSICAL!

Sidenote: The seats we had were amazing! The Civic is cool at the worst of times but front row of the Circle is spectacular.

All the gang were in form last night. I have always had a fancy for being a Rizzo when I really know I am more of a Sandy, alas.

Sandy, incidentally was cast remarkably like a young Olivia Newton John.

The leads were quite lovable, like old friends. Although in Danny Zukos case, an annoying old friend.

If I had one complaint it would be Danny's laugh.  It was funny the first time, the fiftieth I wanted to throw myself off the circle.

My aforementioned lack of attention span came out in force last night. If I had less of a grasp on reality, I would almost say that Inception's Joseph Gordon Levitt was playing Sonny and Frankie Muniz was playing Doody.

But of course that can't have happened.....

The music and songs were amazing; it really did feel like we had gone back to Rydell High.

And so it was, I couldn't stop the beat, I got up off my char and I danced.

Then I sat down, because we all know it's not cool to do that. Even if you're "havin a blast"

But fret not, when we got to the street, no even judging looks could stop us from singing

"We go together like rama lama lama
ke ding a de dinga a dong
remembered for ever like
shoo bop shoo wadda wadda yipitty boom de boom"

Grease is on until 29th August at the Civic, get along!

The rock and roll skirt has been dusted off and the white ankle socks have been pulled up.

Grease has to be one of my favourite movies. Back in 1998-99 I used to watch Grease every second Sunday morning.  It was alternated with Theres Something about Mary. Neither of these were great choces for a nine year old but have to say the jokes mainly went over my head.

Anyway, I loved Grease.  I used to put on little talent shows where I would sing the whole movie.  Unfortunately talent in the singing department was a little limited.

Talent or not, I will be singing along at the Grease Musical this Sunday. If there is one thing that I love more than Grease, its musicals.  Combination of both=winner.

And it has to be said; Grease medley at a party is always a hit.  I bought a singalong/danceaong version of Grease last year in Sydney but have ywt to crank it out. I am hoping the Grease revival will mean I won’t be ostracised like an Ancient Greek when I suggest a little Grease fun.

Grease:The Musical is on until 29th August.  Get into it!

Fri, 30 Jul 2010 03:21:23 -0700 It's just not in my nature .... http://kissmyarts.posterous.com/its-just-not-in-my-nature http://kissmyarts.posterous.com/its-just-not-in-my-nature It was dramatic. I will give "Song of Nature" that.

The synopsis had promised that the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra's performance would evoke emotion.

It certainly did that.

The first twenty minutes had me enthralled. The synchonicity of the orchestra, the drmamtic highs and lows, the grand actions of the conductor.

And then I started to drift. My thoughts went EVERYWHERE.  My body started to feel very uncomfortable and itchy and i started to shift and fidget.

But only ten minutes later was the break. I said to my cultured plus-one "Well at least we know second halves are always shorter. This could be ok."

Famous Last Words

The Philharmonic Orchestra then moved onto their Operatic Section. A woman came out with a thick book to sing from.

A VERY thick book. Watching those pages achingly slowly turn over the next hour and a half was painful.

Again these thoughts started to drift. At the risk of sounding crazy, I managed to list in my head evey single activity and meal I had over the last month. Seriously.

Then I started to estimate how far it was to the fire alarm.  My breathing got tense and my mood very restless.

But then end was in sight. Just one more page, one last chest burying song call.

I have never clapped so hard for someone.

Now don't get me wrong. Song of Nature was great, even I could tell that. But Philharmonic just simply was not for me.

In my state of dreaming I made fun for myself by imagining that this music was the soundtrack for my life.

Unfortunately for me, i need more than just music to stimulate my life. I guess it's just not in my nature.

Burn-the-floor_hero

Mum still has her dancing shoes on.....
I think this is an indication of just how taken she was with it.

Burn the Floor was an amazing mixture of songs, elaborate costumes and awe-inspiring dancing.
It was a real international cast, some of the dancers had come from far-flung places like Russia.

I have always loved the spangle and glamour of show business and Burn the Floor costumes did not disapoint.
If only I could pull off the thigh high lycra...

It is phenomenal just how many different dance styles there are, at the break Mum was like "What else could they do?!"
But new dance styles that wowed us with!

I really recommend that you get along to it tomorrow before it closes.

It is just a really good way to spend an afternoon in riotous splendour.

And rest assured the coffee table is sure to be pulled out once again tonight.  You can't stop the beat.

One of the best things I love about my Mum is that she loves to dance as much as I do.

She will never be as amazing or hot as me of course but Mama Knowles loves to have a boogie.

So I am v glad that I can take her along to Burn the Floor at The Civic this weekend.

Dancing with the Stars is always watched with music up loud in our house and the coffee table is moved because we can't let Shane Cortese have all the fun.

Mum and I went to ballroom dancing for a little while and loved it.

Admittedly we would spend it laughing, at ourselves and the other fools there.

Burn the Floor is a show which originated in Harlem, New York.

I really just put that fun fact in because I wanted to share that I am going to New York next week. And I plan on getting some dancing tips from some lovely New York men, oh yeah!

I'm sure Mum and I will once again argue about which ballroom dancing style is the best. I'm all for romantic waltzing while she's a jiver.

I can't wait to move that coffee table once again.

Wed, 05 May 2010 20:26:33 -0700 Nothing makes me giggle more than a bit of lewd spanking. http://kissmyarts.posterous.com/nothing-makes-me-giggle-more-than-a-bit-of-le http://kissmyarts.posterous.com/nothing-makes-me-giggle-more-than-a-bit-of-le
Annael

I went into The Giant Face expecting a funny ensemble play, I came out of it  amused but confused just as much.

It was a truly off the wall play. We sat there looking at one another going  “what the hell”.  The play started in complete darkness and despite my night blindness I could see. I admit I had a bit of uneasiness about how good this play was going to be. But as it progressed I found myself having a wee giggle.

Today I have been trying to explain the plot of the play to some of my friends. They  look at me with puzzled faces. I shall never think of  Peter Jackson the same way again.

Basically The Giant Face followed Harry McNaughton aka Gerald on Shortland Street and his journey to world-wide stardom in an Avatar-esque movie.

There were a lot of pop culture references to Avatar and Heavenly Creatures that may have gone over some people’s heads but added an element of intellectual frivolity.

I went with plus-two this time which was cool because it meant we had more people to laugh with, awwww.

I really recommend that people get along to it, go in with few expectations and you will be thoroughly amused I think.

I was surprised at how short it was but  this shows how engrossed I was in it.

If you like silly voices, flight of the conchord-esque sing songs, and cross dressing then be sure to give it a crack.

The lewd spanking that I refer to in the title was frequent and I loved it! Note: this was in the play, not a side activity for me whilst watching it.

Ps I don’t actually know the moustached woman in the photo.

The-giant-face-edge-large

I love a hearty giggle so I am very much looking forward to going to "The Giant Face" on Wednesday night.
It is a play as part of the Comedy Festival starring some of our fave Shortland Street stars.

I love Shortland Street, I am not ashamed in the least to admit that.

I am a little ashamed of my behaviour on Saturday at work, Keiran aka Adam Rickett came in wanting a bank cheque to be processed at another bank.

I took him to aforementioned other bank and proceeded to make what i thought to be witty remarks. They were taking an exceptionally long time to decide if they could bank this cleared cheque.
I thought I was funny saying "Oh maybe they think you are money laundering it for the Whitetails".  Good-heartedly Adam laughed and now we are BFF. Yay.

Adam Rickett isn't actually in this play but Libby and Gerald are.

It is written by the same people as Christ Almighty, the Christmas variety show which famously featured Joesph's bizzare relationship with a donkey. I'm still a little scarred.

I'm not yet sure who I am taking as my plus-one, I have a wee list of people who get rotated. The person who is meant to be coming may need to forfeit their rotation to attend RENT due to my fantastic review. It will take another three months for their name to come around again so careful thinking is required...

I am prepared to open up the invite to any submissions, all suggestions will be considered.

Any suggestion will be considered...

Sat, 24 Apr 2010 03:16:12 -0700 Seasons of Love aka Obsession http://kissmyarts.posterous.com/seasons-of-love-aka-obsession http://kissmyarts.posterous.com/seasons-of-love-aka-obsession
Renthero

Words can not really describe how excited I am for RENT! I have been pumped for it since about January, ever since I heard my beloved Michael Murphy was going to play Roger Davis. Don’t misinterpret this, I have not and conceivably will not ever have a relationship with Michael Murphy but he was my absolute first crush. I am sure many girls had their hearts flutter a little when Mike did his point and wink but my god my heart went boom boom.  For those of you not quite as familiar with New Zealand pop celebrity, Michael Murphy was runner-up in NZ Idol.

Travesty.

I’m not bitter.

Anyway, let’s just say it was a deep deep love (read: obsession). I had many a signature from him as evidenced still on my mantlepiece.  Shamefully I used to ring up Classic Hits every time they mentioned his name on the off chance they might pick me to meet him….they never did.

I did sit behind him in TROY once though, rewatching that movie I can still name the scenes he laughed in. Too far Sarah, too far.  But I am over it now even if sometimes I still have a solemn moment for the loss of my Michael Murphy answering machine message.  The guy was a superstar!

So as you can imagine I am just beyond delighted to be going to RENT. Not only will I get to watch my one true love but it is an awesome musical.  My friend loves RENT. And we used to always sing the song “Seasons of Love” , except I could never get the numbers right.  But finally on Friday night I will get my chance to sing “five hundred, twenty five thousand, six hundred minutes!”

Just a wee synopsis for you, RENT is set in 1990’s New York and tells the story of a group of young peeps struggling to pay their rent. It has some pretty intense themes much like life really. I’m excited to finally see it on stage. It is the longest running musical on Broadway as well so it is sure to be rad.

And I just saw there are elements of nudity, I would be lying if I said that didn’t excite me any more. Just quietly I hope its Roger Davis.

There is much hype around this musical and I think it would be a mistake to miss it.

Img00097

I love musicals so I am remarkably biased but RENT was amazing!

I went into it expecting that Michael Murphy would be the highlight but surprisingly he was just a little part of a fantastic production.

RENT managed to integrate a very industrial and edgy staging with deep and heartfelt performances. It honestly managed to transport me to so many places and emotions.

I think the measure of a good production is its ability to affect you. RENT made me cry, it made me laugh, and it made me get goose bumps.

Its themes are undeniably heavy, but at the same time it was festive.  They were having fun in a really bad time.  I like that.

For those less inclined to a singin dancing good ol time, please give RENT a try. I was describing it to a friend today; RENT is the ideal musical to break you in.

It is rough and rock-ish. I would def recommend the taking of a guy to this musical. Michael Murphy does some great solos; boy did it take me back to 2004.

I did come to an important yet heartbreaking realisation during the performance though. I had expected to completely “kaboom-kaboom” over MM but actually it was just a wee smile for sentimentality.

And then I fell madly in love with the guy playing Mark. Go figure.

But in all seriousness, I really really recommend that you get along to RENT.   Your feet will be a-tapping and a lonely warm tear crossing your cheek in no time.

I scoffed at the girls sitting on the pavement at 5pm waiting for Cobra Starship. Little did I know that when i arrived for the concert two hours later, there would be a line spanning from the Town Hall to the Civic Car park. the downpour of rain completed the scene especially when i was wearing a white dress. Nice...

We finally got in and received some rad wristbands (OMG, I will wear it until it fades away to non-existence).

I had had reservations about how good the Town Hall would be for a concert but as my friend said it was quite reminiscent of the St James.

The demographic of the concert only think of the St James as the dodgy sunglasses stand but they were certainly keen for OWL CITY.

He came onto to great fanfare and screams. I have to admit i was a little disturbed by his crazy dance moves but he was a top act. The highlight of the concert for me came when Fireflies was played. It was amazing the way that he didn't even need to sing it, the audience knew all the words!! it really was a magical moment, the town hall went off!!

the intermission was a highlight for my friend and I as the Pop song choice was right on the money, although i did scare some girls with my sudden dance moves. my bad.

I'm not sure my eardrums have recovered from when COBRA STARSHIP made their appearance. They played hit after hit, its crazy how enthusiastic some people were.

In between songs the lead singer felt it necessary to preach to his followers about the need to feel emotion and to follow your dreams. This prompted me to say to my friend that i felt he was undressing me with his words. I got a shake of the head...

It was a fantastic concert, good beats and good peeps. I don't get to go to many concerts but I always find when I do go to them I get a renewed vigor for music.

Oh look at my metaphorical gushing, I could almost be a member of Cobra Starship.

Cobrastarship_hero

Good golly Gee, I am excited about going to the Cobra Starship and Owl City concert at the Town Hall on Friday.

To be honest my music repertoire is pretty slim, I only really listen to the radio in the car and the last time I bought a CD was about 3 months ago (which by the way was GLEE...). But what I do listen to is POP! I love the Top 40 and getting my dance on.

Admittedly I only know Cobra Starship and Owl City's hit songs so I'm really looking forward to getting to hear some of their less known songs.

I'm notorious for not knowing the correct lyrics for songs, I tend to just make up what i hear. For its entirety on the charts i thought
Bubba Sparxxx's song "Ms. New Booty" was saying  "Rocking Debra Wells" instead of "Rocking Everywhere". Not even close.....

So it is with more than just a hint of pride that I admit that I know every lyric of Owl City's "Fireflies". My friend even told me off for being "a bloody singstar" when I was singing along to it. Yus!

As I said before I love a good dance and Cobra Starship has some brill songs to get your groove on to. Its funny how many of their songs apply to me, Hot Mess for one...

It is going to be interesting going to a concert in the Town Hall, I imagine it to be complete contrast to the jazz concert I went to there last month. Its quite cool having it there because I imagine it will be rather intimate.

I'm somewhat confused who is actually part of Owl City or if its just one guy, you never can trust those Wiki articles. But I cant wait to find out!!

There are still some tickets available so give it a crack guys (http://www.the-edge.co.nz/Event-Pages/C/Cobra-Starship.aspx) and meet ya on the the d-floor!

Fri, 12 Feb 2010 16:56:50 -0800 Close your eyes, for just a moment http://kissmyarts.posterous.com/close-your-eyes-for-just-a-moment http://kissmyarts.posterous.com/close-your-eyes-for-just-a-moment
Dsc02503

As i said in my previous blog, I haven't been the greatest fan of jazz in the past and unfortunately Alan Broadbent didn't drastically change my tune. I guess it just wasn't my kind of thing but i can appreciate that there were many people last night who were totally into it.

You will be glad to hear I didn't giggle in the silences, I managed to maintain the stony appreciation of this fine music that many of the audience members had on their face. I even decided to join in the closing of my eyes. When the trio first came out I actually wondered if they were all blind because they all seemed to be closing their eyes. I was having an "inside laugh" (that which is silent yet still hard to contain) when I realised that many of the audience members were also closing their eyes. I challenged myself to do it for 30 seconds but I felt really self conscious.  It was really quite creepy!!

I looked over at my plus-one and saw that he had also closed his eyes, but he wasn't simply enjoying the music. He had actually fallen asleep! The raucous applause at the end of the twenty minute tune soon aroused him.

In after show analysis, plus-one and I decided that we weren't great fans of the jazz concert itself in that it felt quite awkward and rigorous to be simply listening.  However we agreed that jazz, the genre itself was cool as more of a background thing. It would have been cool if they had been playing while we had been mingling or dancing or something.

I can report that Alan was absolutely charming, one thing we both really enjoyed was the little conversations that he would have with the audience between songs. He would explain the history and little anecdotes about a song which I found really interesting. He also seemed to have little jazz in jokes which obviously I didn't get, but i joined in the laughter nonetheless.

Alan was a little rawr but he was more like a smiling grandpa. Tom Dickson on the other hand was rather Rawr, more my age and had an All-American band man thing going on. At least he was around about my age.

One funny moment was when both the plus-one and I had somewhat drifted into our own little thoughts, when Alan announced that he was going to play two songs from famous movies. We sat up with a bolt, then slunk down when he said they were his Kirk Douglas songs.

Overall i enjoyed the music in that it was very easy listening and allowed you to drift, but would probably prefer to be doing something whilst listening.

Still a Rawr for Alan Broadbent though, who can resist that grin?

I may be a fan of the phrase "and all that jazz" but i wouldn't really say i was a fan of jazz itself.
The college I went to was renowned for its jazz band and year in, year out we would listen to them in assembly. And at first people would be booping along but my goodness some of those songs were LONG!!Where are the 3-4 minute radio edits?!

Seriously I have a very short attention span, especially when no one is talking. I find myself awkwardly giggling when no one is talking. I really hope I will be able to keep the "teehees" at bay when I attend Alan Broadbent's concert tomorrow night. He is performing with Frank Gibson and Tom Dennison at the Town Hall.  And as you can see from the above photo, Alan has a little something something going on. He looks like he gets the giggles a bit himself.

Alan worked on the latest Barbra Streisand album "Love is the Answer"  which my plus-one is sure to be excited about. Apparently he's a Grammy winner which is promising, wonder if Kanye let him finish....

The question remains will I be counting down the minutes for Alan to finish or will I be bopping along in joyous fashion?

Tune in peeps!

Sun, 31 Jan 2010 04:11:07 -0800 And the winner is........ insert drumroll http://kissmyarts.posterous.com/and-the-winner-is-insert-drumroll http://kissmyarts.posterous.com/and-the-winner-is-insert-drumroll One of the rules of going to the theatre is to make sure without a doubt that your phone is off.
At the meeting for Kiss My Arts I was absolutely mortified that my phone went off not once but TWICE so when I went to the performances tonight I made certain that my phone was OFF. Whilst waiting for my friend to join me I also managed to leaving my phone in the rain (but bless the gentleman who found it for me before it sizzled out). I'm pleased to say not a single phone went off throughout the Gala night of Short+Sweet.

To be honest I was expecting that it would be quite amateurish. I had imagined that it had been a competition of non-professional playwirghts and actors. In fact there were many famous faces both participating and watching the plays tonight. I guess in being able to go to the final night I was lucky enough to see the best of the plays. The show tonight had me laughing, sighing and reeling back in horror. It was great how quickly these plays could emote the audience.

One of the scenes that hit a particular chord with me was "Uncomfortable Silences", it was pretty much a monologue of a man who was recounting how much he was in love with his friend. It had the audience in hysterics as he described his awkwardness and attempts to tell her he is madly in love. I'm a hopeless unrequited love romantic and so I just loved this scene, especially Nick's cute and dorky wittiscms.

Speaking of uncomfortable silences, La Vie Dans Une Marionette (The Life in a Puppet) I found really awkward at first because it was completely mimed. I guess because I love to chit chat so much, when there is absolute silence I feel the need to giggle to fill the silence. This was one such occasion, but full credit to the actors in this piece, Tama Jarman and Justin Haiau the physicality of it was amazing. NOt sure how exactly they were in the running for best script though....

Diagnosis which took out Best Overall Production had the whole audience cracking up as it explored the tendency for todays' society to want to give a diagnosis for every social quirk, that a condition can explain away odd behaviour. Bronwyn Bradley's explosion over Chilli TimTams was probably the most memorable scene of the night.

As it was the final, there were many a prize to be won:

Best New Talent- Chloe Lewer (Wildthing/10,000 Cigarettes)
Best Actor- Mark Scott (Uncomfortable Silences)
Best Actor Runnerup- Gary Young (The Mooncake and the Kumara)
Best Actress- Bronwyn Bradley (Diagnosis)
Best Actress Runnerup -Joesphine Stewart-Tewhiu (Tipping Point)
Wildcard Winner- La Vie Dans Une Marionette (The Life in a Puppet)
Peoples Choice Award- Diagnosis
Best Director-Cameron Rhodes (Diagnosis)
Best Drama Script- Kiel McNaughton (Scotty off Shortland Street) and Mei-Lin Hansen (The Mooncake and the Kumara)
Best Comedy Script- Diagnosis

  Overall Winner-Diagnosis

Fri, 29 Jan 2010 12:30:00 -0800 Short+Sweet http://kissmyarts.posterous.com/shortsweet http://kissmyarts.posterous.com/shortsweet

First event of the year and I am UBER excited!

When I first heard we were going to Short + Sweet, I was quite pleased because I am a deffo fan of the theatre. I was a Drama kid at school, not because i was particularly talented, in fact quite the opposite but rather because I loved the way that you could legitimately want to be the centre of attention.

As the other contributors have explained Short + Sweet is a series of ten minute plays which the audience votes on. Being the lucky duck that I am, I am off to the Gala Final on Sunday night. So if you have been to S+S and have voted, I am going to be judging what you have put through to the final haha.

I love competitions so I'm particularly pleased to be going to the Final. Is it too crass to refer to it as Play Idol? Personally I love Idol shows, the good thing about the gala is I wont have to watch the terrible audition plays that just make you want to cringe.

I'm expecting that there are going to be some quite risque plays, the briefness of time usually means you have to shock the audience. Bring on the nudity!! I mean bring on the complex themes and metaphorical elegance....

Can't wait to tell you guys who wins!!!

Tue, 01 Dec 2009 19:44:54 -0800 Kiss My Arts: Meet Sarah (Blogger #6) http://kissmyarts.posterous.com/kiss-my-arts-meet-sarah-blogger-6 http://kissmyarts.posterous.com/kiss-my-arts-meet-sarah-blogger-6
Sarah

Feeling guilty and a little disturbed from watching one too many Jeremy Kyle episodes, I decided to enjoy the rare Auckland sunshine today.  What better way to realise this than a pizza picnic in a Ponsonby park with pals. Yes I am aware of this amazing alliteration, it was just asking for it.

We splashed out on some delicious Il Buco and some San Pellegrino, we were living it up! If you want people-watching bypass Pons Road and head straight to Western Park. It’s a rather eclectic group of peeps down there. Nothing like eating your asparagus and brie pizza next to man drinking from a paper bag.

Taking some time to find the agreed upon best spot with optimum sunshine, we wiped the “nasties” from the concrete table and set down our gourmet goods. A few stray dogs tried to eat my Italian sausage before going off to mate... mmm that didn’t put me off my gorgonzola, not one bit.

With the sun warming our faces and the hearty Americana slice warming our bellies, we headed off for a frolic in the sunshine. My friends need not have known about that sneaky slice I had in the car later....
